You don’t have to be fluent in more than one language to find a work from home language job. Some language jobs require you to teach your native language to those who speak a different language, while other language jobs require you to be bilingual.

But being bilingual is a beneficial and vital skill to have and usually means you’ll make more money.

No matter if you only speak English or speak several languages, there are plenty of remote language jobs out there.

So, here is a list of language jobs that can be done from home.

Customer Service

Many companies are moving their customer service positions from the office to remote work locations, and remote customer service jobs are abundant. Especially bilingual customer service jobs. Any company that offers customer service will always need those who are bilingual.

The pay varies, but you can expect to make anywhere between $9 and $20 per hour, depending on the company. 

These companies hire remote bilingual customer service representatives.

 

  •  5CA hires chat and email Gaming Support Representatives to work from home. Most positions allow you to work anywhere in the world, and there are no location restrictions. Also, a lot of these positions require that you speak two languages. 
  •  Alorica hires At-Home Bilingual Customer Service Representatives. Most positions require you to work at least 15 hours per week, and they offer service to customers 24/7.
  • Anthem hires remote Bilingual Customer Care Representatives.
  • BroadPath hires Bilingual Member Service Representatives to work from home.
  • DISH Network hires remote Bilingual Customer Experience Representatives. They require a high school diploma and six months of customer service experience.
  • First Call Resolution is a call center that hires remote Bilingual Customer Service Representatives. These positions are location-dependent and require that you live in the same state they are hiring for.
  • Frontline Call Center hires remote Bilingual Customer Service Representatives and Bilingual Medical Assistants.
  • OutPLEX hires remote independent contractors for bilingual customer service positions in their call center.

English Teachers and Tutors

Teaching English as a second language online is a great way to

work from home. These jobs are also in high demand and, they’re great if you’re looking for a part-time job or just looking for a side gig.

You’ll need to have a foreign language teaching certification. You

Remote ESL teachers can make anywhere from $14 to $25 per hour.

These companies hire freelance ESL teachers.

 

  • Cambly doesn’t require any previous experience, but you must be fluent in English.
  • DaDaABC requires a bachelor’s degree and be a native English speaker.
  • iTalki requires a bachelor’s degree in education and a language teaching certificate or a teaching license.
  • Learnlight requires a foreign language teaching qualification and at least two years’ language teaching experience. Must be proficient in the language being taught.
  • Open English requires at least two years of teaching experience in place of a bachelor’s degree and a foreign language certification.
  • PalFish doesn’t require a bachelor’s degree, but you must have a language teaching certificate.
  • SayABC requires that you have a bachelor’s degree, be a native English speaker, and have at least one year of experience teaching.
  • SkimaTalk doesn’t require a college degree, but they prefer previous English teaching experience, and you must be a native English speaker.
  • VIPKid requires you to have a bachelor’s degree and any type of teaching experience.
  • YiYi English requires a bachelor’s degree and accepts both native and non-native English speakers.

 

Telephone Interpreters

Many companies hire telephone interpreters to translate between their employees and their customers who speak a different language.

If you speak more than one language, you can easily work from home as a telephone interpreter.

The average pay for a telephone interpreter is around $20 per hour.

Where to find remote telephone interpreter jobs.

 

  • Certified Languages International offers video and telephone interpreting services for a variety of industries. They hire independent contractors for remote interpreter roles. 
  • CyraCom hires independent contractors for interpreting positions. They don’t require any previous experience. 
  • Globo hires remote video and telephone interpreters living in the United States. They require at least two years of experience.
  • International Effectiveness Center hires remote independent contractors for interpreter positions. They offer both full-time and part-time hours and require a skills test to be considered for a position.
  • Language Services Associates offers worldwide language interpretation services. They hire remote telephone, video, and American Sign Language interpreters with a college degree.

 

Translators

The job of a translator is to convert written text from one language to another. 

Many businesses need translation services, so if you can fluently speak, read, and write in two or more languages, you can work as a translator from home.

Translators can make anywhere from $19 to over $60 per hour.

These companies hire freelance translators to work from home.

 

  • Acclaro is a localization company that hires freelance translators and editors for many languages. They require a bachelor’s degree and at least three years’ experience.
  • Cactus Global is an editing solutions company that hires freelance translators. They require at least one year of translation experience.
  • Gengo hires remote independent contractors for translation positions. They don’t require any previous experience, but you must pass a skills test.
  • SDL hires freelance translators with experience in various fields such as retail, finance, legal, and travel.
  • Transperfect hires freelance translators with a bachelor’s degree, translation certificate, or equivalent.
