Teach English Online
Teaching English from home has become a really popular remote job, especially for stay-at-home moms. And there is no shortage of online teaching platforms to choose from.
These jobs are also in high demand because they’re great if you’re just looking for a part-time job, or for a side gig.
And they all allow you to work your own hours.
Education Needed to Teach English Online
You’ll need to have a high school diploma or a GED.
Some of the companies that hire remote ESL teachers and tutors require you to have a college degree and your degree can be in any field or subject.
To be eligible to work with some of these companies, you’ll need to have a language certificate such as a TESOL or TEFL. All you need to do in order to get certified is to take a 120-hour class, which can be done online. You don’t need a college degree to get certified and The TEFL Professional Development Institute has a free TEFL class.
Requirements for Teaching English Online
You’ll need to have a computer or laptop with reliable high-speed internet service. You won’t necessarily need hard-wired internet, but you’ll have to have a stable connection with fast upload and download speeds.
You’ll also need to have a webcam and VoIP software like Skype, Facetime, or Google Hangouts.
You may also need to have some teaching props like flashcards and toys.
For some companies, you may be using a cellphone or tablet instead of a computer.
The requirements will be listed on the company’s website.
