Bookkeeping can easily be done remotely from home and can be a source of decent income.

Being a bookkeeper is also a great job for introverts because it’s a back-office job, and you really don’t have much interaction with customers or clients.

Bookkeepers are responsible for posting all debits and credits of a business and handling the business’s day-to-day financial transactions.

Duties and Responsibilities of a Bookkeeper

Some of the responsibilities of a bookkeeper include but are not limited to:

  • Processing payroll
  • Maintaining petty cash fund

Education Needed and Skills Needed to be a Bookkeeper

You’ll need to have a high school diploma or equivalent, but some companies may require that you have at least a 2-year college degree.

Some of the skills needed to be a bookkeeper include:

  • Fast and accurate keyboarding skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Computer skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles

How Much do Bookkeepers Make?

The pay for a bookkeeper will depend greatly on the company and the exact scope of responsibilities. However, according to Salary.com, the typical pay for a bookkeeper is between $18 and $23 per hour.

Where to Find Remote Bookkeeping Jobs

Accountingprose  

This company provides outsourced bookkeeping, payroll, and tax services to small businesses across the United States. Some of the services they provide include accounts payable, accounts receivable, composing financial statements, sales tax prep, and account reconciliation. They prefer their remote bookkeepers to have a bachelor’s degree, but it’s not required.

Acuity

Acuity has been in business since 2013 and provides outsourced bookkeeping, CFO, and controller services to businesses across the United States. They hire remote bookkeepers for functions like accounts payable, invoicing, collections, and account reconciliations. 

Belay

This company provides payroll, bank reconciliation, financial accounting, and accounts payable services to churches, non-profits, and businesses. Remote bookkeepers with this company are independent contractors and part-time. They require a bachelor’s degree and previous experience working remotely. You must be available to work at least 20 hours per week during business hours Monday through Friday. You must also be able to self-train as training is not provided.

BooksTime  

BooksTime provides accounting and bookkeeping services for small businesses. They offer a variety of different positions for accountants, including senior accountants. Requirements will vary depending on the position.

ClickAccounts

ClickAccounts provides outsourced bookkeeping and tax services for accounting, CPA, and Fortune 500 companies. Some of the services they provide include bank reconciliation, bill payments, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. They don’t give any information regarding the amount of experience they require. This company provides CFO, tax, payroll, bookkeeping, and accounting services to small businesses across the United States. Remote bookkeeping positions with the company are W2 and eligible for employee benefits offered by the company.

Supporting Strategies 

This company has been in business since 2004 and provides bookkeeping and accounting services. They hire remote bookkeepers. Most positions are part-time and require previous experience. Some of their positions require a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Team Delegate

Team Delegate provides outsourced bookkeeping and administrative assistant services to business owners. They hire independent contractors for bookkeeping roles to work from home part-time. They require at least five years of bookkeeping or accounting experience. A bachelor’s degree is highly preferred, but not required. Even though these are part-time positions, they require that you be available between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday since the work is not project-based.

Two Roads

This company provides tax and bookkeeping services to companies. They hire bookkeepers to work from home to perform tasks such as setting up QuickBooks online, preparing payroll, and paying vendors. They require at least four years of previous relevant experience, and you must be available to work 30 or more hours per week.
