These Companies Hire Experienced and Beginner Transcriptionists to Work From Home
Transcription is a popular work-from-home job for a couple of reasons. First, it doesn’t involve being on the phone. And second, with most remote transcription jobs, you can usually work on your own schedule because most are independent contractor jobs.
Like every other work-from-home job, some transcription jobs don’t require any experience, while others do.
Here, I have listed the best legitimate remote transcription jobs. These include both beginner and experienced.
What is Transcription?
Transcription involves listening to recordings, either audio or video, and then typing what was said verbatim into a document.
The recordings could be anything from a speech to a job interview or a company meeting.
What Skills Do I Need?
The two most essential skills to be a successful transcriptionist are fast, accurate typing skills and superior spelling and grammar. You should be able to type at least 75 to 80 correct words per minute.
What Equipment is Needed?
The equipment you’ll need to do the job is a computer and high-speed internet service.
Some companies will require you to have headphones and a foot pedal before you start. Some companies don’t require you to have a foot pedal; however, it is crucial to have one because it allows you to start, stop, and rewind the recordings without taking your hands off the keyboard (which slows down your work).
You’ll also need a quiet, distraction-free work area since accuracy is a must.
What is the Pay?
These positions don’t pay an hourly rate; instead, they pay per audio hour.
For example, if the job posting states the pay is $30 per audio hour, then you’ll be paid $30 no matter how long it takes you to complete. It could take three or four hours to transcribe, depending on how fast you can type and the difficulty in deciphering the audio.
Also, the pay will depend on the type of transcription job it is. Medical transcription generally pays more because it’s specialized and requires education.
The following work-from-home transcription jobs are broken down into categories.
Most of these companies hire transcriptionists as independent contractors, but few employ regular employees.
