As more people get online to shop, do their banking, pay their bills, and so on, more companies realize the importance of having live chat and email support agents.
Live chat and email support are ways for customers to immediately access a customer service professional and get answers to their questions without spending countless minutes on the phone trying to get through.
For this reason, remote chat and email positions are becoming very popular, as more companies are shifting their customer service roles away from brick and mortar offices and to remote locations.
If you aren’t a fan of being on the phone all day, then this type of position may be a better fit for you. Plus, a chat support job is definitely less stressful than dealing with disgruntled customers over the phone.
Education Needed for Remote Chat and Email Jobs
Most chat and email support jobs will require a high school diploma; however, the company may require a bachelor’s degree if the job is more technical.
Equipment Needed
Although these roles do not involve speaking to customers over the telephone, you will still need to have a quiet, distraction-free work area.
The reason for this is because most companies will require that you answer two or three live chats simultaneously. You will need to stay focused on the customers you are helping and won’t be able to be disrupted.
You’ll also need a desktop or laptop computer with fast upload and download speeds and high-speed, hard-wired internet service.
Each company will have its own set of requirements, so be sure to read them thoroughly.
Skills Needed
For most of these positions, you’ll need to able to type at least 35 words per minute, with no errors, but some companies may require a much higher typing speed.
You must also have excellent attention to detail, superb communication skills, excellent grammar skills.
